About the Author
Sri Sailendra Bejoy Dasgupta had the great good fortune to be accepted at the age of 19 as a disciple by Swami Sriyukteshvar Giriji Maharaj. He sat at the great Swami’s feet as an eminent and beloved student for the next six years, until Swamiji’s passing in 1935.

Sri Dasguptaji had written this very manuscript near the end of his life during the months of October 1983 through January 1984. He closed his eyes to this world shortly afterward, in March 1984.

Yoga Niketan translated the manuscript into English and first published it in 2006.

Swami Satyananda Giriji Maharaj, eminent and revered disciple of Swami Sriyukteshvar has written the following:

"During the time that Yoganandaji was in India [after returning from America], Sailendra Bejoy was with him practically all day every day and attended to him in many different ways. Swamiji had a great wish that he would take Sailendra Bejoy to America. Even after [Yoganandaji] went back to America, he wrote to me about this many times. But at that time, Sailendra Bejoy did not particularly have much interest in that direction."

And also:
"With him was Bishnu Charan, nephew Ajit-da, Bijoy Mullick, Ananda Lahiri, Sailen Dasgupta and another one or two people. Because of my illness, I had written to Swamiji that Sailendra should work as his attendant in my place. Swamiji had also received Sailen with truly great affection."
~ YOGANANDA SANGA : Paramhansa Yoganandaji As I Have Seen and Understood Him by Swami Satyananda Giri

This is the 75th anniversary edition of the tour de force series of articles in Paramhansa Yogananda’s East-West magazine demonstrating the connection of the astronomical phenomenon known as the precession of the equinoxes with the great cycles of world history, astrology and ancient Hindu Scripture. Tara was an astrologer, direct disciple and chief editor of the Indian yogi Paramhansa Yogananda, author of the 1946 spiritual classic “Autobiography of a Yogi”. Tara’s articles were based on the work of Yogananda’s guru, Sri Yukteswar. At the time of publication in the early 30s, yoga and Yogananda were relatively unknown. Tara helped build Yogananda’s organization, SRF Inc., and indirectly inspired the creation of its largest spin-off, Ananda, formed by its vice-president Swami Kriyananda. Over the past decades interest has dramatically increased as many of the guru’s predictions have been proven.

It does not seem possible that the world needs another biography of St. Francis of Assisi, but Spoto makes a credible case for adding to the glut of books and articles about the medieval saint. He argues that new discoveries in several fields and the latest Franciscan scholarship justify this new biography. Although the findings of his research required Spoto to strip away some of the romance surrounding Francis’s familiar story, he manages to report them without detracting from the integrity of the saint. He raises, for example, questions about whether Francis actually bore the stigmata, or wounds of the crucified Christ, pointing out that sources interviewed for Francis’s canonization denied that he had the marks. Spoto suggests that Francis may actually have suffered from leprosy and that his companions interpreted those wounds as a sharing in Christ’s suffering. Spoto’s chronological recounting of Francis’s life is sufficiently engaging to retain the interest even of those familiar with the basic facts of the saint’s story. Occasionally however, he lapses into seemingly misplaced preaching pedagogy, such as when he holds forth on the subject of conversion in a section about Francis’s spiritual transformation- but given the saint’s diverse appeal, this book should interest a wide audience.
Copyright 2002 Reed Business Information, Inc. –This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

The Ultimate Resource Guide for True Giants Fans

The New York Giants joined the National Football League (NFL) in 1925. During the next nine decades, the team established a winning tradition that led to four NFL championships and three Super Bowls. Most Giants fans know who The Duke is and know all about The Fumble in 1978. Names like Mel Hein, Sam Huff, Frank Gifford, and Y.A. Tittle are just as familiar as Lawrence Taylor, Harry Carson, Phil Simms, Mark Bavaro, Michael Strahan, and Eli Manning. But even the most die-hard fans don t know everything about their beloved Giants.

In 100 Things Giants Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die, Dave Buscema has assembled the facts, traditions, and achievements sure to educate and entertain true fans.
Learn about Emlen Tunnell, Roosevelt Brown, Jeff Hostetler, Joe Morris, Jeremy Shockey, and Brad Van Pelt, among many other pivotal figures. What were the Giants thinking when Tom Brady laughed at Plaxico Burress prediction before Super Bowl XLII? Why did Bill Parcells quit his dream job as a Giants assistant coach to become a realtor in 1979? What did Amani Toomer regret thinking the night before Super Bowl XXXV? Why shouldn t you throw a snowball? Why did Y.A. Tittle almost retire when the Giants traded for him? All of the key events are here: the transitions of leadership through the Mara family; the league championships; the greatest play in Super Bowl history; the Greatest Game Ever Played; the first NFL title game; the move to the Meadowlands; and many more. From the harsh taskmasters like Bill Parcells and Tom Coughlin to the welcoming voice of legendary broadcaster Dick Lynch, in these pages Giants fans will discover the remarkable people, places, and events that celebrate their team.

Super Bowl Monday: From the Persian Gulf to the Shores of West Florida: The New York Giants, the Buffalo Bills, and Super Bowl XXV

Super Bowl Monday is a thorough retelling of Super Bowl XXV, the epic January 1991 showdown between the New York Giants and the Buffalo Bills. Great characters and a gripping finish to the closest episode in Super Bowl history made for a wonderful conclusion to the game’s Silver Anniversary. But what establishes that day as a special moment in American sports history was the cloud of war hanging over the game and the nation. Ten days before the Giants defeated the Bills 20-19 in Tampa Stadium, the United States had authorized Operation Desert Storm and begun the Persian Gulf War. The book is entitled Super Bowl Monday because the hundreds of thousands of American soldiers who were able to watch the Giants vs. the Bills did so on Arabic Standard Time, several hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. For those men and women on duty in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq, Super Bowl XXV took place early Monday morning. Super Bowl Monday features original research from newspaper and video archives in addition to lengthy interviews with many of the game’s stars.

Adam Lazarus has captured in vivid detail Super Bowl XXV, played in the shadow of the first Iraq War, which made for an uneasy and anxious mood at that time in America. Super Bowl Monday is also a book for the true football fan. It really is well done.

    .cs7CED571B{text-align:left;text-indent:0pt;padding:0pt 0pt 0pt 0pt;margin:0pt 0pt 0pt 0pt}  .cs5EFED22F{color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-family:Times New Roman; font-size:12pt; font-weight:normal; font-style:normal; }

This is a wonderful account of a great game and also a look at sport as a diversion from the harsh realities of the real world. An excellent mix of sports reporting and social history.

The most interesting and accomplished examination of Super Bowl XXV I have ever read.

Excellent retelling of the most memorable-and heartbreaking-season in Bills history. Unfortunately for Bills fans, the ending is still the same.

This Super Bowl was one of the best football games I’ve ever seen-one of the most strategic and surprising. Lazarus gives readers a great view from both sides, and it’s well worth the trip back in NFL history.

Scott Norwood’s field-goal kick went wide, but Adam Lazarus’ detailed recount of Super Bowl XXV sails right between the uprights.

All the ingredients are here for a fascinating book: legendary coaches , outrageous characters , and one of the best football games ever played, all set against the backdrop of a nation that had just gone to war. Adam Lazarus clearly has tremendous passion for this project and has already plunged into the research to bring it to life. This should be a terrific book.

Lazarus’ approach to the book, the details, the human angles is a winner. I remember covering the game in Buffalo for the AFC title, and I also remember sitting in my Buffalo hotel room and watching the invasion of Iraq on TV. The writers got together and chartered a plane directly from Buffalo to Tampa because there was no two-week break. It was all so surreal, and then they played the game and it became a classic.

That 1990 Giants team epitomized all the virtues of a what a championship team should represent. It was a special group. Lazarus captures so accurately and so well the emotion and the intensity of that moment. We had shown people we could do it with O. J. [Anderson] and [Jeff] Hostetler and an old defensive back coming from another team. And the way he writes about Matt Bahr, too; all those characters that contributed in an unlikely fashion. The way they all contributed to the team was just beautiful and what the NFL is all about. No one person was bigger than the team.

If I reminisce, I could recount every defensive play and its impact on the final outcome, and from the moment the fighter jets flew over the stadium, until the final kick, all of my emotions and energy were focused on being a Super Bowl champion. My memories of Super Bowl XXV are poignant and vivid, and Adam Lazarus captures the passion of a moment considered one of the greatest games of all time. Readers will be transported back in time and enjoy every minute of it.

Lazarus not only does a tremendous job of bringing the reader back to 1991, when the Buffalo Bills and New York Giants faced off in Super Bowl XXV, but he also sheds light on numerous players’ back stories that set the stage for one of the most exciting Super Bowls in NFL history.

Two of my favorite things in life are American history and the Buffalo Bills. With exhaustive research, Lazarus captures the patriotic fervor engulfing the nation in January of 1991 and masterfully documents a Bills season where they came the closest to winning a Super Bowl in franchise history. Worth a read.

Great reporting of an unforgettable edition of America’s sporting classic. And proof that the show must go on not just in spite of global threats, but as a Super Bowl of reasons to overcome them.

Super Bowl Monday goes by quickly, and doesnt suffer from the problem of having most readers know the outcome. Readers will learn why the game developed the way it did, and enjoy the story all over again.

1. Make your swing and your overall game consistent and reliable.

2. Rediscover and draw upon your innate skills of coordination, timing and feel you first learned as a child.

John is a Fellow of the P.G.A. with more than a half century of experience as a professional teacher. His methods are the result of teaching thousands of students at every level from complete beginners to tournament professionals, from celebrities to politicians, and even a king! They are also the fruit of intensive research into the methods used by greatest players and teachers of the past century.

Now, for the first time you can also benefit from his insights and his passion for golf. You too will discover that Good Golf is Easy!

Foreword by Morgan Mason

I have been blessed in many ways over the years. One of those blessings was an impulse to take a golf lesson having never touched a club or had any interest before.

That day I was blessed again to meet John Norsworthy. Since then he has become a true friend and mentor. Although I didnt take that first lesson until well past the age of 40, I was able, with Johns guidance and confidence in me, to go from complete novice to a single digit handicap in less than 3 years. Something I didnt really believe was possible but John did. John is not only a great teacher but also a great gentleman. I believe this book will be a tremendous asset to golfers of all levels.

The comparisons between the players of yesterday and today are revealing and show that with all the modern technology available now, not much has really changed in the last 100 years. These eternal truths will benefit the game of all golfers and more importantly will make the game easier and more enjoyable.

Thank you John and bless you for making my life so much more enjoyable!

Many a diehard baseball fan could tell you how Game 6 of the 1975 World Series ended¡ªwith Boston catcher Carlton Fisk dramatically waving his extra-inning home run toward fair territory, and the pandemonium that soon followed. As for the other details, Frost (The Match) mentions them all in a wonderful tale about one of the sport’s seminal events. Describing pitch by pitch and inning by inning, Frost breaks down the excitement on the field, but also how each participant came to play in the October thriller. Each player has a story¡ªfrom Boston’s star pitcher Luis Tiant and his humble beginnings, to Cincinnati’s rugged, trash-talking third baseman, Pete Rose. From Yastrzemski to Bench, Evans to Morgan, Frost covers them all, along with the managers, owners and even broadcasters, expertly weaving from the past to that famous fall night. The last third of the work covers the aftermath of the game, recapping Cincinnati’s eventual World Series win in Game 7 (an oft-forgotten fact about that series), and what became of each player in the years following. With each passing baseball season, the number of people who would later claim to have been at Game Six would increase twenty-fold, and thanks to Frost, the reader will likewise feel like he was in attendance at Fenway Park for that World Series classic.
Now in paperback: the inside story behind a crucial chapter in Red Sox lore-and a turbulent time in a troubled city.

George Steinbrenner called it the greatest game in the history of American sports.
Anton’n Kratochv’l was born in Czechoslovakia in 1947, the son of a local photographer, and the youngest of three children. On September 13, 1967, unable to endure the persecution in his homeland, he escaped under the barbed wire of the country’s border with Austria. A four-year period of refugee camps, hostile foreign countries, and separation from family and friends ensued. In 1972, Kratochv’l moved to the United States’ West Coast to begin work as an editorial photographer and photojournalist. Practicing in the tradition of humanist photography, he has since captured countless pictures around the world of social unrest and war, documenting people in extreme situations and crisis conditions. The inhuman situation of children in economically weak parts of the globe is a topic returned to frequently. In the essay that accompanies this retrospective of his life’s work, fellow photo- and print journalist Michael Persson notes that Kratochv’l's accomplishments have been a retracing in pictorial form of his own hellish life. He has chosen to document those who are alone, forgotten, reviled, and punished, much in the same way that he himself was treated. This volume is the first to provide an overview of his thematically organized publications Broken Dream, Mercy, Incognito, and Sopravvivere.

Incognito

In this, his second book of photographs, Antonin Kratochvil turns his camera away from the human catastrophe and destruction he portrayed in Eastern Europe to reveal another side of modernity — the broad-reaching spectrum of the entertainment industry. Kratochvil’s unique take on the famous and fashionable is not the candy-coated imagery so prevalent in today’s fashion and movie magazines. His work underscores the physical and psychological intensity of the creative men and women who have sat before his camera, with images not designed to flatter but rather created to reveal something, possibly hidden, below the surface. Mostly taken on assignment for Detour, W, GQ, and Premiere, Kratochvil’s celebrity portraits have never before been assembled in a book. Among those who have inspired Kratochvil to do some of his best work are Liv Tyler, David Bowie, Willem Dafoe, Jean Reno, Billy Bob Thornton, Bernardo Bertolucci, Peggy Cohen, Rob Morrow, Jessica Lang, Bob Dylan, and Patricia Arquette. Incognito is accompanied by an introduction by writer, actor, and director Billy Bob Thornton and an interview with Mark Jacobson.
