SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Meru Networks, the global leader

in wireless VoIP infrastructure, today announced that Sawtel Inc., a Satellite

and Wireless Telecommunications company, has chosen Meru Networks for an

island-wide Wi-Fi deployment in the Bahamas. Sawtel Inc. will implement the

Meru solution, to ensure a converged voice, data and video services to both

business and residential users across the island of Nassau. The voice

Centrex applications.

For the 1000 node, island-wide deployment, Sawtel Inc. will use Meru’s

WLAN System outdoors and indoors to create the world’s largest virtual cell

covering a 20 x 7 mile area. Using this infrastructure, the provider will

deliver cost-effective voice and data network services with true QoS to end

testing of wireless LAN equipment.

“We have always believed that wireless technology is the ideal vehicle for

delivering cost effective services with QoS to customers who would otherwise

not have access,” said Sawtel Inc.’s Chief Technology Officer, Eric Asare.

“Meru’s WLAN System is the only solution that could deliver toll-quality,

carrier-grade voice capabilities and the mobility and RF features required for

our deployment. Furthermore, with Meru’s virtual cell approach, we estimate

that we’ll save more than $340,000 in RF engineering costs and achieve a rapid

ROI.”

“Sawtel Inc. is a forward-thinking provider that recognized the

limitations of conventional wireless solutions for delivering profitable,

converged services to a large number of users,” stated Kamal Anand, vice

president of marketing, Meru Networks. “Because our WLAN System was designed

specifically for pervasive wireless VoIP networks, we can address the needs of

carriers like Sawtel Inc. and their users and regional providers. Deployments

like this validate the wireless VoIP carrier business model and demonstrate

the economic and technological benefits — including the superior scalability

– of Meru’s WLAN System.”
