V’fone Launches VOIP

DUSSELDORF, Germany — Vodafone will be launching a new service in March which drives forward the convergence of mobile communications and VoIP. PC clients enable private and business customers to use Vodafone services anywhere in the world with their regular Vodafone phone number, both on the PC/internet and on the mobile phone. Incoming calls to the regular mobile phone number ring on both the mobile phone and the PC. The customer then decides where to pick it up. PC-to-PC communication is also free of charge for every internet user.

Popular mobile phone services such as text messaging or video telephony can be conveniently used on the PC. And thanks to the Vodafone client, worldwide VoIP calls can be made in regular mobile phone quality. PC-to-PC calls to other Vodafone users around the world are free of charge, and the user’s national tariff applies for calls made from the PC to mobile phones. The new service goes by the name of “Messenger PC” for private customers and “IP-Phone Pro” for business customers.

Another innovative feature is the “Text Message Toolbar” which enables Vodafone customers to send text and multimedia messages straight from their PC using Internet Explorer or Firefox browser.

The new products unite the advantages of classic mobile telephony and PC. The innovative software is the first to provide users with mobile phone functions on their PC. In this new service, the user’s ID is always the Vodafone mobile phone number. Another advantage is that there is only one mailbox for PC and phone where all missed calls are redirected. Text messages are also sent concurrently to the phone and PC, and you can either reply to them by phone or, for even greater convenience, directly from the PC.

Not only does the service deliver these new functions, it also includes classic PC client functions such as VoIP, chatting and presence indication. Existing contacts of different messengers can easily be synchronised with the Vodafone client so that all communications can be handled on one single platform. All paid-for services are simply billed on the monthly Vodafone phone bill.
